break!!!!!

Hillcat basketball is about to tipoff the second semester. We are all almost back from our Christmas vacations and got some much needed rest. The Hillcat men ended the first semester very strong, finishing 11-0 and 4-0 in conference ranked #5 in the country! We are very proud of our achievements so far this season but now it's time to get down and get back to business. This is going to be a very tough schedule ahead of us and we are preparing ourselves to put our best foot forward and come out strong.

Last week the Hillcat men played against the University of Houston. We played a very tough game. We went into the half up by three points. We came out in the second half and played very hard but we got down and just couldnt fight our way back into the game. Justynn Hammond played a very good game and finished with the game high 22 points.

We start practice tomorrow evening and have our first game back at St. Gregs on the Dec. 31 and then we have a home game Jan. 2 against OBU! We would like to see all of our fans at the game to support your Hillcats.

rsu men vs lubbock

this was a non-stop heart pounding game from the tip. this was probably our hardest test this year so far. lubbock came out prepared and ready to play on yesterday afternoon. just about the whole first half both teams kept trading baskets and there wasnt many defensive stops at all in the first half. the hillcat men went into halftime trailing lubbock 45-40. we kept our heads and stayed together because we knew what we had to do as a team. we knew where we fail short in the first half and what we slacked on and prepared mentally to do what we needed to do in the second half. the start of the second half wasnt how we expected it to be. instead of fighting back we saw ourself digging an even bigger hole and was down by 11 points halfway through the second half. through adversity true character presents itself!!!!! and thats just what happened! the hillcat men's true character presented itself and we dug deep and came together more than ever and we fought our way back into the game and tied the score with less than 5 minutes left. we played very tough defense and had very encouraging help from our bench and our fans. and at the end of the game the hillcat men came out on top winning the game 85-79. lubbock scored 79 points, the most points that have been scored on the hillcat men all season. next game is next saturday vs. john brown and we would like to see even more fans come out and show the hillcat emn some love as we continue a historic season! we love all our fans and we thank you for showing your support.

rsu vs. lubbock - hillcat women

the hillcat women suffered a hurtful lost on yesterday vs the lubbock women. the hillcat women started off on a roll jumping out to a 17-3 lead in the first half but ended up going into halftime down on the score board. they came out playing hard in the second half but ended up falling just a little short as the game clock ran out. the hillcat women played a very hard game but was uable to finish the game out on top. we are very proud of our hillcat women and would like to thank everyone who came out and showed support and to those who watched and listened over the internet.

game time

the hillcat men and women have a game this monday against ecclesia college. we all would really like if you all show your support the best way u can and we always appreciate our fans supporting us.

thanksgiving clinic

black friday was the hillcat thanksgiving clinic! coach barkley, coach love, kenny, jeremy, mo, and myself attended to help the kids improve on their basketball skills. we had a total of 18 kids that came out. it was truly a blessing and we all had a really good time with the little ones. the thanksgiving clinic went from 9am-12pm. it feels really good to be able to give back to the community and to the kids. to actually see that people really appreciate the things we do on the court and want to be like us. so each and everytime theres an oppurtunity to help we all try our best to reach our hands out and help where we can. being able to see the kids learn and really appreciate the help they are getting is the best reward i could receive.

conference game

1st conference game of the year is in the bag. RSU hillcat men and women came out with a win against john brown @ john brown. both team played extremely hard and the women game went down to the wire. with leass than a minute left the score was tied at 50 but the hillcat women came down and hit a 3 and then forceda turnover which led to an easy lay-up at the other end which gave them a 55-50 lead with less than 10 seconds to go and they came out with the win
the hillcat men had an outstanding game against the golden eagles of john brown. the first few minutes of the game we traded baskets but after that the hillcats started to pull away. john brown shot very well from behind the arc but we were able to match their 3's with some 3's of our own. kendrell, donald, and justin were lighting it up from behind the arc and as a collective unit we played excellent team ball on both ends of the floor. this was by far the best game of the year for us so far. we stuck with the game plan and executed in the best possible way. our defense stepped up with the intensity, our offense ran our stuff how we designed it, our transition was really good, the hillcat bench brought and enormous amount energy to the game, and most of all we played together and unselfish. And that is what win gmaes.
i would like to thank all the hillcat fans who came to the game and who listened on the internet. we greatly appreciate all the support you show us and we will continue to come out and play hard night after night.

2-0

i would like to thank all the hillcat fans for coming out and showing us love tonight as we got our second win ina row. it was a very good game. we started out a lil slow and had a fewruns in the first have and we went into halftime with a 9 point lead which was very disapointing for us. the way we played was consistent in the first have which allowed the opposing team to hang around with us. we went into the locker rooms at half and talked about what we had to do to secure a win tonight and thats exactly what we did in the 2nd half. we picked the pressure up and pressed full court and caused some turnovers, we crashed the boards and got a lot of second chance points, and we shot well from behind the arc. we still have to correct some things on the defensive end but overall we played very well. it was a much better improvement from the last home game and the team looked a lot more comfortable on the court and we looked more relaxed in our plays and im proud of my teammates tonight in our efforts. final score 90-71 i may be off a few points.
next game for the women is wednesday at langston and the men and woman have homecoming this saturday and i will look forward to seeing everyone there to support hillcat basketball. Reporting live from the campus of Rogers State university, Brian Gibson . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . signing off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol!

homecoming

Just as a reminder, this is home coming week so Hillcat fans show your support and love for each of your Hillcat players. The men Hillcats have a game tonight at 7pm. I will be looking for all our fans to come out and show some love! Looking forward to seeing you there!
Sunday was a very good day! I want to start off by saying LSU still remains #1 in the polls. Truly the best team in college football and after beating Alabama they have proven to the whole country they are the team to beat!
Now that that's out the way, lol . . . . . . . . . . Sunday was a good day. I woke up and got ready for church. Several of our RSU Hillcat players attended church on sunday moring! Kenny, Leah, Sierra, Candace, Gianna, Brittany, Freddy, Ryan, Kendrell, and myself. I'm very proud of them all for showing some iniative and being responsible adults by getting up on a Sunday morning and going to church. Thats shows and tells a lot about each persons character. After church we went to the Hammet House and ate lunch together.
After church I went home and watched some football and relaxed before our evening practice. By the way, the New Orleans Saints won their game too. So I'm feeling pretty good right now from the college level to the pros. On a more serious note, we had a very hard practice yesterday evening. Each practice we're getting better and better and we're playing better together. We still have some things to work on but as long as we have players that are committing to working hard and accepting their role on and off the court, we will be a hard team to beat. We have a long season ahead of us.

women hillcats

The women Hillcats played two games when they traveled to Baldwin City, Kansas. They played Nov. 4 and 5 and won both games. The women are coming together very well and are playing better and better each time they play. They are still struggling a little with turnovers but they are improving. There next game is Wednesday Nov. 9 against Langston, which will be played in Langston. This will be a very good game and another challenge for our Lady Hillcats. They are preparing hard for this game and I know that they will do a good job, play hard , and come out with a win.

1-0

I would like to thank all the Hillcat fans for coming out on Thursday night to the game and showing us some much needed love. It was a good game and we came out with the victory 96-65! I was very proud of our team and the way we showed up to play and play hard.
We had a very good practice today! It was intense and we got a lot of things accomplished. We are working hard to get prepared for our next game on Monday evening! We have another practice tomorrow evening where we will be looking to improve and get even better.
After this morning's practice, I came home and got some much needed rest as most of our team did the same thing. Getting ready for LSU-ALABAMA! As you should know I am from Louisiana and I pull for the Tigers night in and night out! After the game, I will be calling it a night as I get prepared to go to church in the morning and then our evening practice.
Once again thank you to all the fans for showing love and we will be looking forward to seeing everyone out on Monday evening!

Exhibition Game!

well hillcat fans it wsa a tough lost for the both the men and women hillcat teams tuesday night!
the hillcat men suffered a big lost against ORU! we came out ready but we didnt execute on either end of the floor and or transition wasnt as good as it should have been, plus the turnovers only added to the already existing problems. on a positive note, its only up from here, we can only get better and work harder to accomplish our goals. its sad that we lost but i'd rather it happen in an exhibition game rather than in a game that counts against us. we are already looking towards the future. We had a pretty good practice today and we have practice at 6:30am and shoot around at 2pm before our game tomorrow.
the hilcat women played an excellent game against TU. they came out on the back end of the game but they played very well ina 54-50 loss that came down to the last seconds. gianna and arii led the hillcat women with 14 points and sierra had 11 points. the women played very well. statistically they should have won the game, they had 31 turnovers, they were 8-23 from the free throw line and missed a few tough layups down the stretch. tough lost but good job and way to fight!
we will be looking forward to seeing all our hillcat fans on tomorrow night to support us in our season opener at home.

scrimmage!

First and foremost i would like to thank everyone who showed up for the mens basketball scrimmage yesterday evening. it was a very good game on both sides of the ball offense and defense. the hillcat men jumped out to a 20-4 lead in the game. we gave good pressure on defense and executed on the offense and ran in transition and that allowed the hillcats run away with the lead the way we did. i thought our guard play was pretty good and our post players did a good job finishing around the basket. after the first have we had a 49-40 lead which should have been more but we made somemistakes down the stretch that will be corrected.
the second half was also a good have we improved on some things that we talked about in the locker room which was a very good sign of maturity from our players. i feel this was a good kick off to our season. we will be working hard in practice the rest of the week and into the weekend preparing for the oral roberts game on tuesday in tulsa at 7pm. i look forward to seeing all of you there and once again thanx for the support.

hillcat scrimmage (women)

the hillcat womens basketball team had three scrimmage games on saturday! the first game was at 9am vs. NEO. It was a good game. The hillcat women started off a little slow but picked up the pace very quickly. the hillcat women won the game 30-21.
the next game was at 1pm vs. Conor state. sierra conwell played at coron state for two years before joinging the hillcat womens basketball team. this was a very good game from the tip. arii came out and hit 2 three point field goals in the first half. gianna woods played well in the post and was rebounding off of the glass really hard. sierra and rician played very hard defense and sierra came up with some key steals during the game. larrielle, logan, and madison also played well in the post hitting some tuff shots, making good passes to their teammates, and plaing well with eachother in the post. as a team the hillcats shot well from the free throw line. With 8.6 seconds left in the second half the hillcats had the ball and ran an inbound play to arii in the corner for a three and that sealed the game for the hillcats. they won 47-44.
the last game of the day for the hillcats was at 5pm against carl alberts. the hillcats came out ready to play. executing plays on the offensive and defensive end. they ran the floor very good and score baskets in transition. the guard play of the hillcats was very good in all three games. they play really hard defense and are very active on the defensive end. they pass the ball well and they kept their composure throughtout game by not rushing or forcing passes or shots. the hillcat post play was also very good. the post players work well together by looking for each other and screening for each other. the post players were craching the boards and making tough shots around the basket. there are a few things the hillcat women need to work on but i have no doubt that they will continue to work hard and improve everyday!
The hillcat men basketball team has a scrimmage this wednesday the 26th vs. NEO in the expo center. At this time im not sure exactly what time but i will find out and post that ASAP.

Fall Break

This fall break hillcat basketball received some much needed rest! Both the men and women hillcats have been preparing extremely hard for this upcoming season and it felt good to have a little time recover from our injuries, bruises, sickness, and all other ailments.
Last friday Kendrell, Kenny, Ryan, becca, and myself to a little field trip to the tulsa zoo for our biology project. unfortunately me got there a little late and we only had an hour to look around and see some of the animlas. But, we made the best of the experience and still had some fun. we got to see a few animals such as chimps, meercats, lions, alligators, snakes, alligator snaping turtle, grizzly bear, and a few other animals. sad to say but this has only been the 2nd time in my entire life that i have been to the zoo, lol! The first time was when i took my son to "Boo at the Zoo" back home in Baton Rouge few years ago, which he very much enjoyed!
That night the men and women hillcat basketball players went to B & B movie theatre to watch "Paranormal Activity 3" which was a very good movie. It kept us on the edge of our seats the whole time! Our teammate Ryan said "this has to be on of the biggest mistakes of my life" which was so funny. Honestly some parts did catch me off guard and made me jump a little bit, just a little bit but i wasnt scared, lol! Overall it was a really good movie and i would recommend that you go see it.
friday was a really good day! We had fun at the zoo and got some class work done for our project and we hung out friday night and saw a really good movie!

Last week we had a coaching clinic with some kids from Claremore. Coach  Barkley, Coach Blankenship, Joey, Alex, Trevor, and myself all were apart of the coaching clinic for the kids. We all enjoy helping the young athletes develop their game and help them become the best athletes that they can become. I truly unjoy working with children because they are so full of energy and they keep you on your feet the entire time.  This was Trevor and I first coaching clinic here in Claremore but Joey and Alex has done it before. Total this is my third one I have been apart of and each time I learned something new as well as the kids. I have done a basketball camp back home in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, I have done coaching clinic for special need kids in Wyoming which was one of the best programs I have ever been apart of. Those kids are truly special in everyway. I had so much fun laughing and playing with them and I  just really enjoyed the time I spent with them. I really believe that being an athlete is more than just playing in games when the lights come on, its about doing the little things like helping kids, participating in basketball camps and coaching clinics, being apart of the community, and most important being a role model for the people that look up to you. There are many more but those are just a few.
Its been a really good week for Hillcat basketball! We are learning more and more as a team and we are coming together really well. The men and women are getting prepared for the upcoming season. The Hillcat Women will have a scrimmage this saturday which they will play three different scrimmages and the Hillcat men will have a scrimmage on the 26th of this month. The women have their first game November 1st and the men have their first game November 2nd.
