scrimmage!

First and foremost i would like to thank everyone who showed up for the mens basketball scrimmage yesterday evening. it was a very good game on both sides of the ball offense and defense. the hillcat men jumped out to a 20-4 lead in the game. we gave good pressure on defense and executed on the offense and ran in transition and that allowed the hillcats run away with the lead the way we did. i thought our guard play was pretty good and our post players did a good job finishing around the basket. after the first have we had a 49-40 lead which should have been more but we made somemistakes down the stretch that will be corrected.
the second half was also a good have we improved on some things that we talked about in the locker room which was a very good sign of maturity from our players. i feel this was a good kick off to our season. we will be working hard in practice the rest of the week and into the weekend preparing for the oral roberts game on tuesday in tulsa at 7pm. i look forward to seeing all of you there and once again thanx for the support.

hillcat scrimmage (women)

the hillcat womens basketball team had three scrimmage games on saturday! the first game was at 9am vs. NEO. It was a good game. The hillcat women started off a little slow but picked up the pace very quickly. the hillcat women won the game 30-21.
the next game was at 1pm vs. Conor state. sierra conwell played at coron state for two years before joinging the hillcat womens basketball team. this was a very good game from the tip. arii came out and hit 2 three point field goals in the first half. gianna woods played well in the post and was rebounding off of the glass really hard. sierra and rician played very hard defense and sierra came up with some key steals during the game. larrielle, logan, and madison also played well in the post hitting some tuff shots, making good passes to their teammates, and plaing well with eachother in the post. as a team the hillcats shot well from the free throw line. With 8.6 seconds left in the second half the hillcats had the ball and ran an inbound play to arii in the corner for a three and that sealed the game for the hillcats. they won 47-44.
the last game of the day for the hillcats was at 5pm against carl alberts. the hillcats came out ready to play. executing plays on the offensive and defensive end. they ran the floor very good and score baskets in transition. the guard play of the hillcats was very good in all three games. they play really hard defense and are very active on the defensive end. they pass the ball well and they kept their composure throughtout game by not rushing or forcing passes or shots. the hillcat post play was also very good. the post players work well together by looking for each other and screening for each other. the post players were craching the boards and making tough shots around the basket. there are a few things the hillcat women need to work on but i have no doubt that they will continue to work hard and improve everyday!
The hillcat men basketball team has a scrimmage this wednesday the 26th vs. NEO in the expo center. At this time im not sure exactly what time but i will find out and post that ASAP.

Fall Break

This fall break hillcat basketball received some much needed rest! Both the men and women hillcats have been preparing extremely hard for this upcoming season and it felt good to have a little time recover from our injuries, bruises, sickness, and all other ailments.
Last friday Kendrell, Kenny, Ryan, becca, and myself to a little field trip to the tulsa zoo for our biology project. unfortunately me got there a little late and we only had an hour to look around and see some of the animlas. But, we made the best of the experience and still had some fun. we got to see a few animals such as chimps, meercats, lions, alligators, snakes, alligator snaping turtle, grizzly bear, and a few other animals. sad to say but this has only been the 2nd time in my entire life that i have been to the zoo, lol! The first time was when i took my son to "Boo at the Zoo" back home in Baton Rouge few years ago, which he very much enjoyed!
That night the men and women hillcat basketball players went to B & B movie theatre to watch "Paranormal Activity 3" which was a very good movie. It kept us on the edge of our seats the whole time! Our teammate Ryan said "this has to be on of the biggest mistakes of my life" which was so funny. Honestly some parts did catch me off guard and made me jump a little bit, just a little bit but i wasnt scared, lol! Overall it was a really good movie and i would recommend that you go see it.
friday was a really good day! We had fun at the zoo and got some class work done for our project and we hung out friday night and saw a really good movie!

Last week we had a coaching clinic with some kids from Claremore. Coach  Barkley, Coach Blankenship, Joey, Alex, Trevor, and myself all were apart of the coaching clinic for the kids. We all enjoy helping the young athletes develop their game and help them become the best athletes that they can become. I truly unjoy working with children because they are so full of energy and they keep you on your feet the entire time.  This was Trevor and I first coaching clinic here in Claremore but Joey and Alex has done it before. Total this is my third one I have been apart of and each time I learned something new as well as the kids. I have done a basketball camp back home in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, I have done coaching clinic for special need kids in Wyoming which was one of the best programs I have ever been apart of. Those kids are truly special in everyway. I had so much fun laughing and playing with them and I  just really enjoyed the time I spent with them. I really believe that being an athlete is more than just playing in games when the lights come on, its about doing the little things like helping kids, participating in basketball camps and coaching clinics, being apart of the community, and most important being a role model for the people that look up to you. There are many more but those are just a few.
Its been a really good week for Hillcat basketball! We are learning more and more as a team and we are coming together really well. The men and women are getting prepared for the upcoming season. The Hillcat Women will have a scrimmage this saturday which they will play three different scrimmages and the Hillcat men will have a scrimmage on the 26th of this month. The women have their first game November 1st and the men have their first game November 2nd.
